Do You Want To Heighten The Effects Of Your House Painting Project? Explore Your 3 Main Options For Painting The Ceiling

Constance Cunningham

A fresh coat of paint makes a big difference on the interior of your home, and you can create many different effects just by choosing the right color scheme. However, you might have overlooked one part of each room that contributes to the overall aesthetics. Ceilings are not typically the main focal point of a room, but the right paint colors on the highest point of the room make a huge difference in how the rest of the color scheme works together. As you work with your paint company, be sure to discuss these three options for creating the effect you are looking for during your home remodeling project.

Stick to the Same Hue as the Walls

The simplest option is to just paint the ceiling the same color as the rest of the walls. This concept works best if all of your walls are being painted the same color, and you may prefer this option if you prefer continuity. If you choose this option, keep in mind that the natural shadows in the room can cause the ceiling to look slightly darker or lighter than the walls. However, this can generate a lovely appearance in the right setting. Painting the walls and ceiling the same color can also help to bring out the other colors that you use in the room such as on the trim.

Stay In the Same Color Family

Your next option is to stick with the same general hue, but ask the painter to make it a few shades darker or lighter. A darker shade on the ceiling can help to make a room feel cozier, and you may choose this option if you have very high ceilings that make the room intimidating for the purpose such as in a nursery. Lighter ceiling colors do the opposite by making the ceiling look higher, which is great for low ceilings.

Go With a Completely Different Color

Today, many homeowners are choosing to accent their ceiling by selecting a bold hue that stands out from the wall colors. This tends to give your home a more modern look, but you must be cautious to avoid going overboard. When you plan your painting services, consider painting the walls a neutral shade if you want to add color to the ceiling so that it is not overwhelming. Then, add a splash of color to the ceiling over the fireplace or near a window in the kitchen to draw the eye to these special focal points.

Your choice of a paint color for the ceiling transforms how your color scheme works throughout the room. Whether you want to create the illusion of more space or prefer to highlight another area, you can work with your paint company to use the ceiling color to heighten the effects.
